
The slain officers were Const. Peter Christopher Schiemann, 25 (pictured top left), Const. Brock Warren Myrol, 29 (top right), Const. Lionide Nicholas "Leo" Johnston, 32 (bottom left), and Const. Anthony Fitzgerald Orion Gordon, 28 (bottom right).
Schiemann was first posted to the Mayerthorpe detachment in November, 2000 and lived in the town. Schieman grew up in Stony Plain, Alberta and his family still lives there. Schieman was born in Petrolia, Ontario.
Myrol had joined the Mayerthorpe detachment just two weeks before the shooting, and had recently become engaged. Myrol proposed to his girlfriend, Anjila Steeves, on Christmas day. He had received an undergraduate arts degree from Red Deer College. Myrol was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan.
Johnston was from Owl River, Alberta. He joined the RCMP four years ago with his twin brother, Lee. Both were ace marksmen and received their Crown Pistols and Crown Rifles badges last year. In 1997, Johnston was in a motorcycle accident while racing at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park, and spent a week in a coma. He recovered and later joined the Mounties. Johnston was a resident of the Lac La Biche area, and was posted to Mayerthorpe in the spring of 2001.
Gordon completed training and was posted to the Whitecourt detachment in October, 2002. He was born in Edmonton.
