Human Remains Found At LRT Site


Construction on the southern leg of Edmonton's Light Rail Transit system came to a halt on January 4th, 2008 when human remains were discovered by workers installing a sewer line.


Excavation was taking place near 43rd Avenue and 111th Street when parts of a decayed wooden box were unearthed about five feet below the surface. Inside the box were human bones » full details »

Sandra Nipshank


The body of 44-year-old Sandra Nipshank was found January 8th, 2008 lightly-clothed and frozen on a north-end townhouse walkway near 150th Avenue and 118th Street.


While the medical examiner's office ruled her death as non-criminal, Nipshank's family has questions about what led to the woman's death » full details »

Maurice Powder


On January 20th, 2008 police were called to the Rosslyn area in north Edmonton after the discovery of a frozen body was reported to 911. Police indicated that 43-year-old Maurice Powder was homeless and his death didn't appear to be suspicious in nature. Ironically, Powder's brother David also died on the streets.


That a homeless person died so far from the downtown core became the focus of media and those working with the city's transient population. 44 persons without permanent residence died on city streets in 2007, a number that was expected to continue to rise » full details »

Guns And Gangs Grip Mid-winter Edmonton


At a time when most Edmontonians were dealing with one of the coldest winters in a decade, Edmonton police were dealing with one of the most violent spells in recent memory.

On February 12th, 2008 a website was launched that allows public access to missing persons files that date back to the 1970s.

Two women, missing from northeastern British Columbia since February 2005, are the latest additions to the list of missing persons falling under the Project KARE mandate.

Missing: Lorilee Mae Francis


On December 27th, 2007 24-year-old Lorilee Mae Francis was reported missing by her family.

Soldier Found Dead at CFB Edmonton


The Canadian Forces National Investigation Unit looked into the case of a man's death at the Edmonton Garrison on the same day another Edmonton soldier was buried.

The Stony Plain Baby


RCMP are investigating the discovery of the body of a newborn baby found on an acreage northwest of Edmonton.


The Stony Plain detachment was notified at 6:57 a.m. on April 16th, 2008 by a man walking his dog on a quad trail near Range Road 14 five kilometres north of the Yellowhead Highway.


The baby, found wrapped in a pink towel, was male and close to full term. There were no obvious signs of trauma and a cause of death has not yet been determined » full details »

Near-naked Woman Found Dead


Police investigated a suspicious death in a neighbourhood adjacent to the City Centre Airport.


Emergency services were called to a home in the Prince Charles community at about 5:15 p.m. on April 23rd, 2008 after a woman's partially-naked body was discovered lying face down in the snow of a backyard.


The woman was wearing only a pair of black underwear. The body was found by a man shovelling recently-fallen snow from a late-spring storm, the worst on record for the month of April » full details »

Boyd Buzzing Mad Over Officer Swarming


"Our police officers are not punching bags ... and neither are any of our citizens who are being attacked out there."

Chinatown Shooting


Around 2:30 a.m. June 10th, 2008 police were called after man entered the rear of the All Happy Family Restaurant at 10011 106 Avenue suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds.

Man Found Dead Near Downtown


Homicide detectives were called out to oversee the investigation of a dead body found at the top of the river valley just west of 124th Street on Jasper Avenue, immediately above Victoria Park.

Suspicious Death: Andrew Rademacher


Police continue to investigate what may end up becoming Edmonton's fifteen homicide of 2008.


At about 4:00 p.m. on June 29th, 2008 50-year-old Andrew Rademacher was discovered lying in a pool of blood near an abandoned home near 95th Street and 107th A Avenue. He was suffering from serious wounds and was taken to hospital. Rademacher remained in critical condition until the morning of July 4th when he succumbed to his injuries.

Problems Persist on the Avenue of Nations


In the wake of the fatal shooting of Andrew Livingstone O'Brien on August 5th, 2008, media attention focussed on Edmonton's 107th Avenue's reputation of violence.


With real estate development in the city's urban core tearing down many downtown haunts, inner city residents have been forced into moving to surrounding areas. The Percy Davis Police Shooting


At about 9:19 a.m. August 8th, 2008 a man waving a knife outside Abbottsfield Mall was shot by Edmonton police. Witnesses told media the man refused to drop the knife when ordered to do so by an officer. After a brief standoff, the officer shot the man twice.


The shooting of Percy Davis was the first investigation to be handled by Alberta's newly-formed Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). With police unable to comment on the matter, Davis' family and witnesses raised questions about the shooting » full details »

Another Body Found In Strathcona County


Strathcona County RCMP continue to investigate the discovery of human remains found in a farmer's field northeast of Sherwood Park and south of Fort Saskatchewan.


On August 25th, 2008 police received a call from a local resident who was out swathing when he come across what he believed were human bones on a property near Township Road 542 and Range Road 225.
