Kenyon Joseph Gardiner, 20, was shot and stabbed to death May 15th, 2005.
Steven Anthony Pillon, 20, was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
Brandon Neil Prevey, 25, was charged with second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm.
It was the sort of call police usually responded to at the house located at 9742 152 Street: a noisy party with loud music accompanied by the thumping sound of rap emmanating from souped-up cars with black tinted windows coming to and fro.
But early in the morning of May 15th, the party got out of control and five people were shot, stabbed ... or both.
One of them died later in University of Alberta Hospital.
The trouble first started in a local bar.
One group left but were followed by the other. When they met up at the house party, gunfire erupted.
Police arrived and immediately administered CPR to a man, one of four who were rushed to hospital. A fifth person did not require medical attention for his wounds.
Twenty of the estimated fifty party-goers at the house were taken in for questioning at the west end station. Gang affiliations and drug ties were not ruled out as factors at the time of the incident.
An autopsy showed that Kenyon Joseph Gardiner had also been stabbed in addition to being shot, with the knife wound proving fatal.
Exactly two months after his death, Vancouver police arrested two men wanted in connection with Edmonton's fourteenth homicide.
Steven Anthony Pillon was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
Brandon Neil Prevey was charged with second-degree murder and ten other offences. Both men were from Edmonton.
On September 9th, 2006 Pillon was grazed by a bullet during the shooting death of Lily Duong aka Lily Tran.
Police said that Tran was likely not the target in the drive-by event on the city's south side.
Another man was shot in the throat during the incident
A spokesman for Alberta Justice said Pillon's involvement in the shooting may see him return to jail.
"The Crown will be making application for bail review, on the ground the accused is in breach of his bail conditions," said Bart Johnson who declined to elaborate.
Pillon was released on bail on April 21st, 2006. His trial was scheduled for December 4th.
