On May 30th, 2008 Fort Saskatchewan RCMP received a call around 2:00 p.m. from a farmer who found human remains in a wooded area near the Skaro Shrine, along Township Road 192 near the intersection of Highways 45 and 831.
Thinking the smell might be coming from a dead animal, the farmer followed it into some bushes beside the field. Police soon confirmed a homicide investigation was underway and that two bodies were involved.

On May 23rd, after a month-long investigation, RCMP announced they had charged two 17-year-old females in connection with the body of a newborn found dead on an acreage northwest of Edmonton.

A man opening his front door to pick up the morning paper saw himself looking at next-day headlines when he found a dying man lying near the porch of his house near 111th Street and University Avenue at about 7:15 a.m. on April 26th, 2008.

A 49-year-old woman was found lying face down in the snow in front of her condominium at 1828 Lakewood Road South at about 12:13 a.m. February 29th, 2008. For the next 24 hours police weren't sure if they were dealing with a suspicious death or Edmonton's latest murder.
After receiving treatment by paramedics at the scene, the woman was rushed to the Grey Nuns hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Crime scene tape was put up, taken down and later put up again.
Investigators continued to class the woman's death as suspicious until later on March 1st when they confirmed the case of Beverly Parker as a homicide, citing strangulation as the cause of her death.

On January 26th, 2007 Emergency Medical Services were called to a west end home after a call came in reporting a small child was suffering respiratory distress. A three-year-old boy showed obvious signs of severe head trauma and was rushed to the Stollery Children's Hospital.
Police took a 32-year-old woman into custody at the scene, charging her with counts of aggravated assault, duty of persons to provide necessaries [failure to provide the necessities of life] and child abandonment.

At about 2:00 p.m. June 21st, 2007 the driver of a quad all-terrain vehicle was travelling down a cut line beside a row of power transmission poles in central Alberta. He was in the area fixing a fence. His eyes soon fixed on a set of human remains.
On July 11th RCMP identified the body as 27-year-old missing Edmonton-area sex-trade worker Leanne Lori Benwell, a victim of homicide.
